Spicy Fried Chicken Burger
Serves 4 people | Prep time: 30 minutes (plus 2 hours marinating) | Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients for the Chicken:
4 chicken breast fillets (150g each), butterflied and pounded thin
500ml buttermilk
2 tsp hot sauce
300g plain flour
2 tsp paprika
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Vegetable oil for deep frying
For the Hot Honey:
90ml R. Stephens Tasmanian Organic Honey
1-2 tsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
1/4 tsp chilli flakes
Pinch of salt
For Assembly:
4 brioche burger buns
120g Marsh Extra Tasty Cheddar cheese, sliced
2-3 jalapeños, sliced
4 butter lettuce leaves
2 tomatoes, sliced
60ml mayonnaise
30g butter for toasting buns
Instructions
Marinate: Mix buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken, cover completely. Refrigerate 2+ hours.
Make hot honey: Warm honey in saucepan, stir in hot sauce, chilli flakes, and salt. Cool.
Prepare coating: Combine flour, paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Fry: Heat oil to 180°C. Dredge chicken in flour mixture. Fry 6-8 minutes until golden. Drain on paper towels.
Assemble: Toast buttered buns. Layer mayo, lettuce, tomato, chicken, Marsh Extra Tasty Cheddar, jalapeños, and hot honey. Serve immediately.
