Mac and Cheese with Crispy Breadcrumb Topping
Serves: 6–8 | Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 35 mins

Ingredients
  • 500g elbow macaroni or penne
  • 300g Marsh Extra Tasty Cheddar, grated
  • 60g butter
  • 60g plain flour
  • 750ml full cream milk
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • Salt & white pepper
Topping:
  • 150g fresh breadcrumbs
  • 60g Marsh Extra Tasty Cheddar, grated
  • 45g melted butter
  • 30g chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 200°C and butter a 23×33cm baking dish.
  2. Cook pasta in salted water until just al dente. Drain.
  3. Make sauce: Melt butter, whisk in flour for 2–3 mins. Slowly add milk, whisking until thickened. Stir in mustard, garlic powder, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and cheese until smooth.
  4. Combine: Mix pasta with cheese sauce and pour into dish.
  5. Topping: Pulse bread into crumbs. Mix with cheese, butter, parsley, paprika, and garlic powder.
  6. Assemble & bake: Top pasta with crumb mix. Bake 20–25 mins until golden and bubbling. Let rest 5 mins before serving.
